Knox Mayor Dennis Estok, city council members and youngsters cut the ribbon for the splash pad in May.

The splash pad in Wythogan Park will officially close for the year on Monday. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok says it will be winterized and waxed to get ready for next season.

Adding the popular amenity was among Estok’s campaign promises. He secured funds for the project shortly after taking office in January and solicited volunteers to help with site preparation and construction. The splash pad opened in May and was busy throughout the summer.

Construction of a band stage between the splash pad and park entrance is underway now. Estok also told the city council Tuesday night he would eventually like to add a set of restrooms and a concession stand between the splash pad and the stage and also make improvements to the existing facilities next to the tennis courts and ball parks. No timeline has been set yet for that work.
