Community Center Donations Sought as Grant Deadline Looms

NJCommunityCenterDonations continue rolling in for the proposed North Judson-Wayne Township Community Center. North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says about $10,000 has been collected so far in monetary donations. Organizers’ goal is $20,000, in order to maximize points to increase the town’s chances of getting a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

However, time is running out to make the donations count as part of the grant application. Collins says donations will be collected until Wednesday, October 12. Also on Wednesday, a public hearing will be held on the community center project at 6:00 p.m. at North Judson Town Hall. The project’s grant application is due Friday, October 14. If it’s approved, the grant would cover $500,000 of the community center’s roughly $840,000 cost.

Organizers also hope to take advantage of donations of labor and materials, in order to complete the project. During Monday’s North Judson Town Council meeting, project organizer Bill Crase thanked those who have agreed to make in-kind donations. These include several businesses and residents, as well as the Town of North Judson. Additionally, North Judson and Wayne Township plan to contribute $12,500 each for the purchase of some of the necessary land.
