Pulaski Building Inspector to Begin Accepting Credit Card Payments

Pulaski County CourthouseThe Pulaski County Building Inspector is preparing to accept credit and debit card payments in the near future.

During Monday’s Pulaski County Commissioner’s meeting, the request was made to setup the proper equipment to begin accepting the increasingly common method of payment.

Building Inspector Doug Hoover says they receive a lot of requests to accept credit cards. Commissioner Larry Brady was quick to support the proposal.

“It is a needed feature for county government,” says Brady. “Any office that’s receiving monies. Whether it be the county highway or the dog catcher.”

The Pulaski County IT director was given permission to order and setup the necessary equipment to begin operating the service. A contract is also expected to be proposed prior to beginning the work.

The Commissioners agreed that if the building inspector’s office begins using it, they could also begin using credit card devices for any department that receives payment for services.

Brady says Hoover first needed to speak with the county treasurer.

“So those monies coming from that machine will be automatically deposited into that account, and then weekly or monthly you would make that withdrawal,” says Brady.

His comments echoed County Auditor Shelia Garling, who advised the commissioners that if a credit card machine is going to be used, a bank account must first be set-up with regular transfers into the county general fund.

The commissioners approved the request unanimously.
