Community Crossings Funds were announced for Northern Indiana on Wednesday and Starke and Pulaski have a few communities among the recipients.
The grant program was established by the General Assembly earlier this year, allocating nearly $160-million to help fund infrastructure improvements throughout the Hoosier State.
Many communities used their special Local Option Income Tax Distribution from the state as their matching share for the Community Crossings application. Up to $1-million could be received for road, bridge, and ADA compliance projects.
Pulaski County received $482-thousand for several proposed upgrades. Winamac was granted $146-thousand, while Medaryville and Francesville received $100-thousand and $85-thousand, respectively.
In Starke County, the City of Knox will be receiving $183-thousand for their project’s list while Hamlet was given $40-thousand. Starke County as an entity did not receive a Community Crossings matching grant disbursement.
Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb made the announcement Wednesday afternoon in LaPorte. He says 121 Northern Indiana cities, towns, and counties received a combined $51-million. A press release from the Indiana Department of Transportation says Northern Indiana submitted the most applications for Community Crossings grants.
