Knox May Scrap Harvest Festival

City_of_Knox_LogoKnox will not be hosting a Harvest Festival this year. That question was raised during Mayor Dennis Estok’s Monday town hall meeting. He says a lot of work goes into the event, and a lot of volunteers are needed to pull it off.

Estok ran the festival for four years during his last term as mayor.

“I think, the one year we had like 100 units in the parade, and that took a lot of people to line up and keep track of just the parade.”

Estok says there’s not enough time to put together a festival for this year.

“That’s just about a year-round thing with vendors and all that. You’ve just got to keep on top of it. They let it go for two years and then they tried to bring it back and they had what, four vendors show up.”

Estok says he’s not sure whether the Harvest Festival will return next year.

“If we were to do that, we’d probably have to start this fall and build it back up, because you’re just starting a new festival.”

Estok says the city may instead opt to focus its resources on the July Fun Day in the Park and fireworks celebration. He says the inaugural event was extremely successful and hopes to make it even bigger next year.
