Hoosier Homestead Awards Bestowed Next Friday

It’s Indiana State Fair time and that means the Hoosier Homestead awards will handed out by the Lt. Governor late next week.

The Indiana State Department of Agriculture makes the selections for the awards for farms that have been owned by the same family for more than 100 years. Since 1976, more than 5-thousand family farms have been recognized.

During this year’s state fair, nearly 100 farms will be recognized. That’s a record according to a news release for the ISDA. Farmers in Starke and Pulaski County have been recognized in the recent past.

To qualify, farms must consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1-thousand of agricultural products per year.
