The Town of Hamlet stands to benefit from the annual Starke Hospital Day of Service. Each year employees spend a day improving the community. Past efforts have included painting at Sandy Acres Park in Knox and installing equipment at the North Judson Town Park.

This year they’re eyeing Hamlet for their September 23rd service project. Hospital officials approached the town’s park board Wednesday night to gauge their interest and see what services they can provide.

The town recently bought and installed some new playground equipment. However, the only nearby seating is the picnic table. The park board suggested the installation of a bench as a project. Starke Hospital CEO Craig Felty says they’ve got funds available to buy and install at least one bench.

Hamlet Park 2Tentative plans call for it to be placed between the basketball court and skate park facing Division Street. The park board will put together a formal plan for the hospital prior to their next meeting.
