Pulaski County Nears Community Crossings Submission

Pulaski County CourthousePulaski County is nearly ready to submit its application to the state for consideration under the Community Crossings grant program.

During Monday’s County Commissioner’s meeting, a few final signatures were gathered on projects that will be included in the grant application. Community Crossings is a grant program run through the Indiana Department of Transportation that looks to fund road projects based on need and population.

County and local governments have been working to properly account for the state’s special Local Option Income Tax Distribution earlier this year that was expected to provide road funding.

Community Crossings looks to supplement that LOIT funding by providing additional grant opportunities to governments that have projects needing adequate funding. Nearly every government in the local area is using at least a portion of the LOIT distribution to match the Community Crossings grant.

Pulaski County is not exempt as they are conducting similar work. A bridge/culvert replacement project has been identified along with projects between 750 and 800 North, in the area of 200 North, and a project near Star City.

Some counties have projects ready to be completed in the fall. INDOT is expected to announce grant recipients at the end of August or early September for work to begin. Applications for the Community Crossings grant program are due at the end of July.

The Pulaski County Commissioners approved signing off on the projects list prior to submitting the application.
