Potential North Judson Railroad Operators Revealed

Hoosier Valley Railroad MuseumMore information has been revealed about the potential operators of the short line railroad owned by the Town of North Judson. Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says Lake State Railway and NIWX are the two companies under consideration by the town to lease the line.

According to its website, Lake State Railway currently operates about 300 miles of track in Michigan, between Flint, Gaylord, and Alpena, with headquarters in Saginaw. Meanwhile, NIWX, otherwise known as the Northern Illinois & Wisconsin Railway, is a locomotive leasing and sales company affiliated with U.S. Rail Partners of Lemont, Illinois.

According to the proposed timeline for the lease process, North Judson hopes to secure a lease by the end of next week. However, Collins says no specific date has been set for final approval from the town council.
