IDHS Provides Holiday Safety Tips Prior to Community Celebrations

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security says that if you’re planning to attend a large event this holiday weekend, it’s important to keep a few things in mind.

IDHS says Hoosiers are encouraged to enjoy the celebration to their comfort level, but suggests preparation prior to a large community gathering is critical. Officials say being prepared for anything can help ensure calm and safety during an emergency.

Keeping a safe distance from the fireworks launch site can help ensure safety, as can maintaining some distance between yourself and individuals using sparklers.

Researching the venue ahead of time, asking how many are expected to attend, understanding the emergency protocols, and how to contact security at the site are considered key questions to answer ahead of time.

Further, IDHS says explaining to young children how to behave and how to avoid strangers in a large gathering is also recommended.
