An investigation is wrapping up following a fatal accident in LaPorte County on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in the area of State Road 39 North and County Road 1000 North around 10:30 p.m. According to the incident report a man, identified as 36-year-old Steven Kniola, Jr. of Michigan City, was crossing the roadway when he walked into the path of a northbound Chevrolet truck.
The driver of the vehicle allegedly told police the victim ran into the roadway and right into the path of his truck. Police say no alcohol was detected on the driver, and that he is not suspected of wrongdoing.
Kniola, Jr. was found to have a Blood Alcohol Content of .18%. LaPorte County investigators believe that was a contributing factor in the incident. Family members were contacted Wednesday morning by the LaPorte County Coroner’s office.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
