The LaPorte Police Department conducted hundreds of traffic stops during May’s enforcement blitz.
Extra patrols were out as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign. During the 25-day timeframe, LaPorte Police say they issued 143 tickets for the lack of wearing a seatbelt. Four additional tickets were written for child restraint violations. In total, 173 violations were ticketed according to a press release.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that in 2015 more than 88-percent of drivers and passengers used a seatbelt. Records from the NHTSA also suggest that more than 12-thousand lives were saved by the use of a seatbelt nationwide.
In the Hoosier state, 90.2-percent of motorists have indicated they wear their seatbelt.
