Weapon at South Central H.S. Was BB Gun, According to Sheriff

Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office say a recent report of a weapon on school property at South Central turned out to be a BB gun. An investigation into the May 14th incident found that a freshman student on the baseball team brought the gun to practice with the intent to take it to a friend’s house afterward. Authorities note it was never displayed and remained in its case in the press box.

The head coach notified school administrators after he learned of the incident. A LaPorte County Deputy serves as a school resource officer at South Central. Findings from his investigation will be turned over to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any laws were broken.

Sheriff John Boyd notes his department takes complaints like this seriously. He says school officials who notified law enforcement remained in constant communication during the investigation and maintained a high level of cooperation.
