Knox Councilman Don Kring and Mayor Dennis Estok lay sod at the splash pad in Wythogan Park in anticipation of Saturday’s ribbon cutting.

The splash pad in Wythogan Park is ready for summer. Knox Mayor Dennis Estok is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony for the city’s newest attraction on Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. Members of the public are invited.

Adding the amenity to the park was one of his main priorities. The Knox City Council and Redevelopment Commission blessed the project back in January and allocated money to make it a reality.

Several local contractors donated time, labor and equipment for the project as soon as it warmed up enough to start construction. That list includes Jamie and Angie Dowd of JD Excavating; Doug Allen and Jeremy Crittendon from Custom Concrete and Construction; salesman Brad Binkley from Ozinga Concrete; Arctic Air owner Donald Kring; Palm Plumbing owner Joe Palm, Mike Baron from Michael’s Landscaping; Knox Water Superintendent Todd Gardner and employees Joe Venckus and Tim Vogelzang; Knox Wastewater Superintendent Kelly Clemons and employees Jason Clemons, Keith White and Sterling Patrick; and Loehmer Ag owner Chris Loehmer.
