Public Hearing Tonight on N.J.-S.P. Superintendent Contract

NJ-SP School Board 2015-2016The North Judson-San Pierre School Board is ready to hire a full-time superintendent. Dr. Robert Boyd has been serving in an interim capacity since January. He replaced Lynn Johnson, who retired at the end of December. Boyd’s interim contract ends June 30th.

A public hearing is scheduled this evening at 6 at the corporation’s administration building to review the proposed superintendent contract. It carries a first-year salary of $99,700. It will increase to $102,000 for each of the next two years, with one-year extensions every year thereafter unless the board notifies the superintendent otherwise. That’s the same base salary Johnson was making.

Benefits include paid health insurance premiums, valued at $21,108, with an additional $1,224 for dental and vision insurance. The school corporation also provides a $100,000 term life insurance policy for the superintendent at a cost to the board of $131 per year and pays $3,689 for disability insurance.

Under the proposed contract, the school corporation will also contribute 2.5 percent of the superintendent’s salary to an annuity. That comes to $2,493 in the first year.

All reasonable expenses for the superintendent to attend state and national conferences with prior board approval will be paid as well.

The superintendent will be required to work 240 days a year, with an annual entitlement of 20 vacation and three personal days, 10 holidays and 10 annual sick days.

A brief, special-called board meeting will follow tonight’s public hearing. Agenda items include approval of school profile amendment forms and approval of a vendor for the Guaranteed Energy Savings Project.

The board will vote on the proposed contract during their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 17th at 7 p.m.
