Two Oregon-Davis kindergarten teachers were recognized during Monday’s school board meeting for their innovative math teaching techniques.

Interim Superintendent Jim Dermody says Tish Cooper and Amy Borkholder were recently selected to give a presentation at the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development’s recent Kindergarten and Pre-K Conference. “They presented on a topic of ‘paperless math,’ in other words, instructing students as they move away from traditional worksheets,” says Dermody. “And this included using hands-on play ideas to teach math concepts, along with instructional technology.”

Also during this week’s meeting, the school board gave its approval to allow Transportation Coordinator Bobby Ferch to begin the process of purchasing a new school bus. Demody expects a recommendation to be brought before the board at an upcoming meeting.

Additionally, retiring elementary school teachers Cheryl Bragg and Deb Marsh were recognized Monday for their years of service to Oregon-Davis.
