The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is looking to take part in a state program that would help the corporation identify areas of potential growth.

Interim Superintendent Jim Dermody says Oregon-Davis is one of seven school corporations invited by the Indiana Department of Education to apply for the State Development Network Grant, “It’s a prestigious program. Oregon-Davis is excited about participating, being invited. The great thing about it is we can choose our own area that we can identify as an area that we would like to develop in, and as part of that, the state supports that. It’s a one-year commitment.” He says the corporation has submitted its application for the program, and expects a response from the state next month.

Additionally, Oregon-Davis is one of many entities across Northern Indiana being asked to provide input on a potential rail project. The privately-built Great Lakes Basin Railroad would run from the Kingsbury area west into Illinois, then north to Wisconsin, bypassing the congested Chicago area. Dermody says the Surface Transportation Board has invited Oregon-Davis School Board members to submit their questions and concerns, as part of the process of creating a draft scope of study.
