Culver School Board to Consider Teacher Cuts

Culver Community School CorporationStaff cuts will be up for discussion during tonight’s Culver School Board meeting. Board members will consider a resolution to determine the need for a decrease in the number of certified staff.

The Culver Community Schools Corporation has been considering staff reductions in response to cuts in state funding for the corporation’s General Fund. The school board has already decided to eliminate the elementary school assistant principal position currently held by Julie Berndt.

Tonight, the Culver School Board will also receive an update on the Monterey School Building. The Culver Community Schools Corporation has been taking steps to sell the building, in an effort to save the corporation the cost of maintenance and insurance. Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell has been scheduling appraisals of the property. Once the appraisals are done, the corporation can decide whether to hold a public auction or accept bids for the Monterey Building.

Also during tonight’s meeting, the school board will finalize the arrangements for this week’s intercession period, by formally approving the list of intercession bus drivers.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Culver School Administration Building.
