West Central School Board Ponders Pre-K Addition

abc-blocksOfficials with the West Central School Corporation are looking into the feasibility of adding a pre-kindergarten program next fall. Superintendent Don Street says they will be gauging parent interest during the upcoming Kindergarten Round Up on Thursday, March 31st. The enrollment form asks parents whether their child is enrolled in either Head Start or the Medaryville preschool.

Street says the corporation has not committed to adding pre-K yet. He notes such programs provide a natural feeder into kindergarten and give students an opportunity to interact with their peers in a structured setting and learn to follow instructions from a teacher. One possibility under consideration is the addition of a Pulaski County Head Start classroom on the west side of the county.

If West Central opts to add pre-K, Street says they will start with a maximum of 18 students. The school board will revisit the subject at their April 7th meeting.
