This Week Dedicated to Severe Weather Preparedness

Sunday kicked-off Severe Weather Preparedness Week, and several organizations are cooperating to make sure you and your family are ready.

The goal of recognizing severe weather is to ensure Indiana residents are able to respond to different types of dangerous weather and flood hazards. Each day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week is designed to inform residents about the risks posed by tornados, lightning, extreme heat, and flooding. A review of available resources is also called for under the education to ensure families know their plans and where to get help.

First on the preparation list is to better understand the National Weather Services’ severe weather categories. Those include warnings, watches, and risk levels.

Steps are also encouraged to ensure your family understands their roles for differing levels of an emergency.

More information can be found on the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s website.
