Sheriff Urges Motorists to Watch for Inmates

Inmate work crewInmates from the Starke County Jail have resumed picking up trash along local roadways. The work crew of between three and five people is under the supervision of a jail employee.

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin reinstituted the program last spring with the blessing of the county commissioners. The inmates collect and bag trash, which is then picked up by the Starke County Highway Department.

The jail staff uses portable orange signs to alert motorists to the presence of inmates. Dulin reminds motorists to slow down when they drive through areas where the inmate crew is working.
