Pulaski County Chamber Announces 2016 Halleck Winners

A husband and wife from Francesville are the winners of the 2016 H.J. Halleck Award. It’s presented annually by the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce to a resident who shows outstanding community spirit, works to improve quality of life in the county and gives time and energy without the gratitude and recognition they deserve.

Chuck and Darlene Mellon are this year’s honorees. He serves on the Humanitarian Distribution Center board of directors, the Health Department Board and is a member of the West Central Educational Foundation. Chuck previously served on the Pulaski County Community Foundation and PACE boards. He retired in 2014 as superintendent of the West Central School Corporation. Chuck has also been a guest speaker for the National Honor Society and a motivational speaker.

Darlene Mellon is actively involved with the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission. She also serves on the Pulaski County Community Foundation and Economic Development boards and regularly attends Francesville town council meetings. Darlene volunteers to find information to make Francesville a better place to live and pursues grant opportunities to enhance the community.

Mr. and Mrs. Mellon are active members of the First Christian Church of Francesville and serve on the Francesville Fall Festival Committee. They also work to maintain the Francesville gazebo.

The Mellons will be recognized during the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Halleck Award Banquet. The date has not yet been announced.
