N.J.-S.P. Schedules Intersession “Boot Camp”

Boot CampSeveral North Judson-San Pierre Elementary School students will be heading to “boot camp” in a few weeks. That’s the theme for the first spring intersession, which will take place April 4-8. It’s a feature of the balanced school calendar designed to give students a chance to catch up on their studies.

Manager of Data Services Venita Cunningham told the school board Tuesday night 30 “cadets” in grades 3 through 5 will attend classes from 7:45 until 11:45 a.m. each day.

She says the program will also give them a boost for the ISTEP+ test, which will be administered on April 18th. Each morning the cadets will change into their t-shirt “uniforms” and take part in calisthenics in the gym, led by Principal Mike McBride.

After that, they will fall out and eat breakfast, then head to class to hone reading skills in a small group setting. Cadets will break at mid-morning to run the obstacle course. When they’re done, they will calculate math until lunch time.

Cunningham says parents received letters earlier this month inviting students to participate.
