Last night, when the Hamlet Town Board asked for comments from the public, the proposed construction of two 4,400 head wean-to-finish hog barns near the intersection of County roads 400 North and 600 East, south of Hamlet, was the subject of discussion.
JML Family Farm, LLC, of Knox has filed an application with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for a hog farm operation.
Concern was raised about the hog manure to be applied on local farm ground to provide crop nutrients.
The applicants state they would follow the proper IDEM and OISC setbacks and guidelines.
IDEM will accept written public comments at least until 33 days after the filing date of March 2, 2016.
