Rep. Dermody Makes Request to Name Roadway After Former Governor

DermodyState Representative Tom Dermody is honoring a former Indiana governor by requesting to name a local roadway after the man.

Harold Handley was a LaPorte County native who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After serving in politics at the state level both as a senator and lieutenant governor, Handley served as governor from 1957 to 1961. That makes him the 40th governor of Indiana, according to Dermody.

To honor the former governor, Representative Dermody says he is naming a stretch of roadway at the intersection of State Road 2 and U.S. Highway 20 at Rolling Prairie with Handley’s namesake.

Dermody praised the former governor for his work to reduce property taxes and advocating for Hoosiers with disabilities.

The request to change the name of the road now goes to the Indiana Department of Transportation for final approval.
