Winds Wreak Havoc on Area Roadways

High winds made travel difficult for truckers yesterday, with multiple rollover accidents reported in the local area. U.S. 421 was closed for hours between State Roads 8 and 10 after an overturned semi was leaking diesel fuel, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and Haz-Mat crews responded to the crash, along with the LaCrosse and Cass-Clinton fire departments. The Sheriff’s Office says a motorist was reported to be injured, but not seriously.

The wind is also being blamed for downed utility poles that had Johnson Road in LaPorte County closed yesterday between 400 West and 500 West.
