Starke County EMS Realizes Savings Through Vendor Change

Starke County EMS has saved more money than originally anticipated through a change of oxygen vendors. They switched from South Bend-based Praxair to Plymouth-based American Gas and Welding for tank rentals and refills last April. American Gas and Welding charges considerably less for the same product. Their delivery costs are also lower.

When the change was made last year, EMS Director Keith Emigh told the commissioners he anticipated an annual savings of nearly $3,600. They’ve already saved more than $8,100 on oxygen tanks and supplies. Costs do vary from month to month based on usage due to patient volume.
