The Starke County Public Library is kicking off its winter reading program this week with activities for people of all ages. This year’s theme is Sweet Adventures in Reading, based on the game Candyland.

Janine Tuttle-Gassere is the head of the children’s and young adult department at the library. She says children and teens can earn sweet treats by reading five books or listening to books for five hours. These include Rice Krispies Treats that participants can shape into a gingerbread man or customize with candy. Additionally, adults who read or listen to six books will be entered into a prize drawing.

To go along with the winter program, Tuttle-Gassere says visitors to the Henry F. Shricker Library in Knox will have the chance to play a life-sized version of Candyland between now and Saturday, “We have a spinner and you follow the big Candyland board game and you walk through the Licorice Lagoon and then go to the Candy Castle and everything, just like the Candyland game board.” For teens in middle and high school, there will also be a life-sized version of Clue open Friday and Saturday.

Sweet Adventures in Reading runs through February 27. To sign up, visit any Starke County Public Library branch.2016 Publicity Full Sheet flyer
