Starke County Highway Garage Upgrades Fuel Pumps

The new fuel pumps are in use at the Starke County Highway Garage. That’s where other county departments are able to fill their vehicles with either gasoline or diesel. The new system requires access codes, which in turn helps the highway department and auditor’s office to track fuel usage and bill departments accordingly.

Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler told the commissioners Monday night he will continue to request fuel bids each time the tanks need to be filled. He says they’ve saved a lot of money by doing so.

Ritzler is also working on an asset management summary and operational manual for the highway department. It’s a comprehensive list of roads, bridges and other county transportation infrastructure assets and their status. He advised the commissioners he will have a draft copy for their consideration at their next meeting.
