Local Students Receive Homeland Security Scholarships

Indiana Department of Homeland SecurityThe Indiana Department of Homeland Security Foundation is helping a couple of local students further their education. They awarded scholarships to 19 students who serve in public safety organizations for their 2015-16 college education.

Each recipient attends an Indiana college and has volunteer experience at a public safety organization. The scholarships are funded through the purchase of “Secure Indiana” license plates.

Pulaski County recipient Cameron Owens studies athletic training and criminology at Ball State University. He will receive a $2,000 award. Owens is a certified firefighter and has served with Francesville Volunteer Fire Department since 2013.

Austin Holland from LaPorte County also received a $2,000 scholarship. He studies mechanical engineering at Purdue. Holland has served as a firefighter with the Kankakee Township Volunteer Fire Department since 2013.
