Knox Receives Grant for Railroad Markings

The railroad crossing pavement markings within the Knox city limits will be repainted this spring. Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the board of works this week the city got a $6,800 grant from INDOT to redo them.

Borg also shared numbers from 2015 with the board. He says crews handled 79 tons of mixed waste and 219 tons of vacuumed leaves, for a total of 298 tons of compost. The compost pile behind city hall is available year-round for the disposal of leaves, grass clippings, tree branches and other yard waste.

The winter has been a mild one so far from the street department’s perspective. Borg advises all of their equipment is in working order, and they have ample salt supplies on hand.
