The Crossing to Host Christmas Open House

The CrossingStudents from The Crossing Educational Center will have the chance to put their business skills to the test tomorrow when they host a Christmas Open House.

Micro-business instructor Lori Gant says students have been learning to assemble and repair furniture, as well as run the business end of the operation, “Saturday is our Christmas Open House, so it’s kind of like the big finale for the semester, where the students get to learn how to use all of this business information that we’ve been learning throughout the semester.”

She says there will be plenty of activities for the entire family at the event, “Santa is going to be here from 10:00 to 12:00, so people can bring their kids in and they can meet Santa and tell him what they want for Christmas. We are going to have cookie decorating, so there will be sugar cookies that are already cut out, and there will be some already decorated with the refreshments for people, or the kids could decorate a cookie while mom and dad are looking at the furniture.”

Gant says there will be a variety of hardwood furniture available, “We have dining room tables. We have kitchen hutches. We have a bookcase. We have some entertainment centers. We have a couple of unique little cabinet pieces, an end table, some counter-height tables.” They will also be raffling off a dining room table at the end of the day.

Proceeds from the furniture sales fund the continued operation of the school. The Crossing’s Christmas Open House takes place tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the school, which is located at 2616 S. U.S. 35 next to Save A Lot in Knox.
