The Starke County Sheriff’s Office recently added K9 Zardos to the force.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office hopes the newest addition to the department will help to take a bite out of crime. K9 Zardos was purchased recently with funds donated by members of the community. Sheriff Bill Dulin says the dog is certified in narcotics detection and tracking and was purchased from Vohn Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind.

Det. Sgt. Adam Gray and Zardos will work the second shift. Dulin says this will provide the sheriff’s office and other agencies in Starke County with round-the-clock K9 coverage. He believes the additional dog will help to significantly curb the county’s drug problem.

Det. Sgt. Rob Olejniczak  and his K9 partner, Terror, are assigned to the day shift.

Dulin says the K9 program will continue to accept donations and conduct fundraisers to pay for vet bills and continuing training for both officers and their dogs. Cash donations or money orders made out to “Starke County K9 Fund” can be dropped off at the jail. Personal checks will not be accepted. All contributions are tax deductible.
