Meat Business Robbed at Gun Point in Weekend Incident

LaPorte Police are searching for information and a suspect after an armed robbery on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of I Street just before 4:00 p.m. to a report of a robbery in progress.

Representatives of Marshall’s Custom Meats told police that a lone man entered the business to make a purchase. The police report indicates that the patron dropped some change on the floor and bent down to pick it up. When he surfaced above the counter, he was allegedly holding a handgun.

The suspect demanded that the store’s clerk give him the contents of the cash register before fleeing the scene. Officers say the man, described as a black male wearing jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt was last seen running east on 16th Street.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the LaPorte Police Department.
