LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department to Offer Warrant Grace Period

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department says efforts to reduce the number of warrants in its system will be ongoing.

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, it was announced that individuals with outstanding warrants in LaPorte County may qualify for a grace period for their warrant. The grace period was announced alongside the results of an initial warrant sweep.

LaPorte County has a current backlog of 6-thousand active warrants. The Sheriff’s Department has been working to reduce that figure, but the grace period looks to further cut the number during the two weeks prior to the Christmas holiday.

For now, LaPorte County is limiting its warrants during the grace period to lower-level misdemeanors. The Sheriff’s Department expects to provide additional details on the program.
