Knox School Board Tours New Elementary Cafeteria

Knox-School-Board-2014The newly completed Knox Elementary School cafeteria and cooking kitchen were a focus of last night’s meeting of the School Board. The board meeting was held in the cafeteria itself. Tours of the cooking kitchen were given by Superintendent A.J. Gappa. He reported the elementary building project is near completion. The new lunch facility has a seating capacity of about 150 students. The school’s enrollment of 450 eat there daily in three shifts.

The matter of the “Curriculum Director” was removed from the business agenda by a unanimous vote, after a board member suggested the item was not a personnel matter, but rather, a financial consideration, to be discussed at a later date.

After approving a fund raising project for the High School Jazz Band, a discussion was held with the attorney about control of the funds of a board approved fund raiser: the fundraising school-related organization or the school board? The attorney reported that in most circumstances the funds would come under the control of the school board.

After review a study of the matter, the board determined that purchase of school buses, rather than leasing them, was the most economical. A transfer of surplus bus replacement funds to the rainy day fund was approved.

Also approved were the treasurer’s report, the vendor usage report, claims, NEOLA policy, elementary building project claims, new hires and extracurricular appointments.
