Flooding Concerns Linger into the New Year

 
 

Minor flooding of the Tippecanoe River near Ora is expected to occur over the weekend. A flood warning remains in effect until late Sunday night.

As of 8 p.m. Wednesday the river was holding steady at 11.7 feet. That’s just below the 12 foot flood stage in that area. The Tippy is expected to rise above that later today and crest near 12.2 feet early tomorrow afternoon. Significant lowland and rural flooding begins when the river hits 12 feet near Ora. It’s expected to fall below flood stage early Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has also extended the flood warning for the Kankakee River at U.S. 30 until Wednesday morning. Last night it was holding steady at 11.3 feet in that area. Flood stage there is 10 feet. Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast. The Kankakee River will fall below flood stage around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Flooding of secondary roads near the river occurs when it hits 11 feet.
