Fire Destroys Jenkins Tire, Cause Remains Under Investigation

The cause of a Sunday fire that destroyed a Winamac business remains under investigation. The Winamac Volunteer Fire Department was called to Jenkins Service and Tire Sales at the corner of U.S. 35 and State Road 14 West around noon.

Firefighters from multiple departments in Pulaski and Starke Counties spent the day battling the blaze. No injuries were reported. The business was destroyed, and homes adjacent to the business were damaged by the heat and flames. The fire also melted wiring that provides electrical power to a significant portion of Winamac. Problems were reported with Internet and telephone service as well.

Winamac Fire Chief Bill Weaver tells WKVI News investigators believe an employee was working on a vehicle when it caught fire. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted to assist with the investigation.
