Motorists may soon see some new signs along Heaton Street in Knox.

It was reported during Wednesday morning’s Knox Board of Public Works meeting that the signage will be installed at the intersections between Water Street and Culver Road.

Street Department Superintendent Jeff Borg says the new signs will be more visible to those traveling U.S. 35 within the city limits.

“All those will be replaced with a high prismatic sign that meets the Federal Highway Administration standards,” says Borg. “I think if it’s over 30 miles per hour, they want you to have at least a six inch letter.”

Some additional signs will be installed south of Culver Road by Airway Drive, according to Borg.

It was discussed at the Board of Works’ previous meeting in November that money was available in the budget to make the transition. The Board of Works did not take any action to approve the installation.

Borg also reported that leaves collected during autumn have been transported out of the City’s possession to a field on Toto Road owned by Lee Nagai. 226 dump truck loads were taken to the field site.

Borg says it’s waste reduction for the City.

“It’s beneficial for him. He wanted it all so there’s no problem there for us,” says Borg. “Now it’ll get us cleaned-out and get us ready to go again for our leaf [collection.]”

Brush hauled from Knox residences may need some additional equipment, such as a payloader, to adequately store. Borg reported that the City still has plenty of space for its storage.
