ISP Stepping-up Enforcement During Holiday Travel Period

Indiana State Police are pumping up patrols this week in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

As part of an Operation Pullover event, ISP and 250 other law enforcement agencies from around the state will be increasing their patrols of local roadways. That campaign started earlier this month, but comes to a head this week.

Apart from high visibility enforcement patrols, the Indiana State Police also plan to conduct sobriety checkpoints throughout the Hoosier State.

A second federal program, however, hopes to reduce the number of accidents during the holiday period. Combined Accident Reduction Effort, or CARE, is a federally funded program hoping to incentivize safe driving habits while families are on the road to visit family.

According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, there were 520 alcohol-related crashes across Indiana in November of 2014.
