North Judson Garage Fire Ruled Accidental

The Tuesday morning fire that destroyed a detached garage at North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely’s home started accidentally, according to an investigator from the state fire marshal’s office.

North Judson Fire Chief Joe Leszak tells WKVI News his department was notified just after 12:30 a.m. and left the home in the 300 block of Garden Street around 8 that morning. Nobody was home at the time. The garage sustained extensive damage, and nearby structures were damaged as well. Leszak says the fire appeared to have originated in the Ford police car parked inside the garage. No injuries were reported.
