NIPSCO Proposes Rate Increase

nipsco-logoNIPSCO customers may see an increase in their electric bills next year. The utility company has submitted a request to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to raise base rates.

It’s the first such proposed increase since 2010 and the second in the past 25 years. Residential customers can expect their bills to go up by $10.53 per month, based on average usage. Customers can calculate individual bill impacts by visiting NIPSCO.com/rates.

Company officials say the hike is necessary to keep up with increased power production and distribution costs. NIPSCO has also invested $95 million in system upgrades, including new poles, lines and substations, over the past five years.

Consumers can weigh in on the proposed rate increase by contacting the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. Visit http://www.in.gov/iurc/2610.htm for more information.
