LaPorte Man Threatens Family Member with Knife, Arrested Following Scuffle

A LaPorte man is facing a couple of charges after allegedly threatening a family member with a knife.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Maple Avenue in LaPorte on Wednesday for a domestic incident. Officers arrived on scene around 11:40 a.m.

Authorities accuse 77-year-old James Friedl of arguing with the victim, described as being 45-years-old, before retrieving a large knife and running at the victim. Police claim Friedl made threats to kill the family member.

According to a press release, Friedl initially denied possessing a knife, but a pat down revealed a pocketknife on his person. Friedl allegedly told officers they would first have to get him on the ground to retrieve the weapon – which was subsequently conducted.

The kitchen knife allegedly used in the incident was located and taken as evidence.

Following his transfer to the LaPorte County Jail, Friedl is being charged with Indimidation, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
