Three Candidates Have Filed for Starke County Coroner’s Seat

Three candidates have filed to run for the office of Coroner in Starke County.

A vacancy was created after former Coroner Adam Gray resigned due to professional and family reasons. In the interim, Jasper County has agreed to provide Coroner services to Starke County until a replacement is found.

Those interested in running for the seat must be registered as a Democrat. Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley says those interested can file a declaration of candidacy with her office. Those interested in running must file at least 72 hours prior to the caucus date.

So far, Michelle Prater, Julie Carmean and Danny Hoffer, Jr. have declared their candidacy for the office.

The Starke County Democrats will caucus to fill the role where the party’s precinct committee members will cast their vote. 10 days had to pass prior to a candidate being selected for the office.
