Thursday marked the end of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
For 20 days, the LaPorte Police Department worked extra patrols to help deter impaired driving on Indiana roads. During the enforcement period, 29 tickets were written, 128 warnings were given, and one arrest was made for driving while intoxicated.
The campaign is undertaken on an annual basis by more than 250 law enforcement agencies in Indiana.
LaPorte Police Captain Tom Heath says its important drivers understand the risks of driving while impaired.
In 2012, one alcohol related driving fatality occurred every 51 minutes in the United States. That’s according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Following the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” period, LaPorte Police has now turned its attention to seatbelt violators. That campaign will last until September 23rd.
The efforts are all part of the National “Operation Pullover” blitz that ends on September 30th.
