Starke County Posts Lowest Unemployment Rate Since 2007

  
 

Starke County’s June unemployment rate is the lowest its been since November of 2007. Back then it bottomed out at 5.5 percent, according to officials with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation. June’s jobless rate hit 5.7 percent, which is down slightly from May’s 5.9 percent number.

Statewide unemployment is 4.9 percent for June, which is below the national rate of 5.3 percent.

Surrounding counties saw declines in their unemployment rates as well. In Pulaski County it hit 4.1 percent in June. Marshall County is sitting at an even 4-percent. LaPorte County tied Starke with a 5.7 percent jobless rate for the month of June.

Statewide 42 counties saw declines in unemployment, 19 were unchanged between May and June, and 31 experienced increases in the number of job seekers.
