Political Action Committee Forming for N.J.-S.P. Tax Referendum

Political efforts are beginning to mobilize in the North Judson – San Pierre area.

The school corporation has authorized a referendum to appear on the November General Election ballot that would raise the property tax levy. According to officials with the school corporation, funds raised will help maintain key services without reductions in staff or cuts to student activities.

North Judson-San Pierre is working hard to ensure laws that limit certain types of fundraising and campaigning by the school board and administration on the issue.

A Political Action Coalition is being formed to help take on the task of promoting the tax increase to the public. Superintendent Lynn Johnson says a loose group of community members have met once to begin developing a plan to answer the public’s questions and provide insight into what a tax increase will accomplish.

Johnson says a hard list of PAC members has not quite been finalized. She says a follow-up meeting will take place Wednesday, August 19th at 7:00 p.m. The gathering will be held at the public library.

Details regarding their campaign efforts have remained a bit elusive for the time being. Johnson said she intended to first speak with the school corporation’s consultant on the matter before providing more details. Additional information is expected to become available in the near future.
