Knox Sewer System Requires Expensive Upgrades

City_of_Knox_LogoThe City of Knox wastewater treatment system needs some costly upgrades to address aging infrastructure. Superintendent Kelly Clemons told the board of works this week a sewer main that broke near the White House Motel a few weeks ago is 80 years old. Crews patched it together, but that’s not considered a long-term fix.

Clemons estimates lines and a manhole on Lake Street are even older than that. For starters, she says they need to be lined and notes that’s cheaper than making repairs. The city has some money set aside for that type of work. Clemons notes upgrades are also needed at the wastewater treatment plant. Mayor Rick Chambers told her to come up with a priority list of manholes and lines that need to be done and bring it to next month’s meeting.
