Starke County May Jobless Rate Slightly Higher Than National Average

  
 

Starke County saw a fractional uptick in unemployment for the month of May, according to figures released this week by the state. The jobless rate of 5.9 percent is up one-tenth of a percent. Statewide May unemployment is at 5.1 percent for the month.

Of Indiana’s 92 counties, 81 saw unemployment increases in May. That includes all of the surrounding counties. Marshall County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the area at 4.1 percent for the month. Pulaski and Fulton Counties are tied at 4.5 percent. St. Joseph County’s rate of 5.1 percent for May of 2015 matches the state. Porter County saw a 5.4 percent unemployment, and LaPorte posted a 6 percent jobless rate for the month.
