Hamlet Council Approves Cumulative Capital Development Fund

Hamlet Town HallThe Town of Hamlet voted to renew its Cumulative Capital Development Fund at a special meeting at the Town Hall last night with only two members of the Town Board present. Frank Lonigro Jr. did not attend.

The CCDF tax, if it finally is authorized, will increase the average Hamlet homeowner’s tax bill by less than $20 annually. The state of Indiana has final approval of the proposal. One person was present to support the passage of the ordinance. No one spoke to oppose it.

The funds raised by the proposed ordinance may be used to improve police and fire protection for the town, among other uses. Property owners have a 30-day period in which to file a petition opposing the proposal. Fifty signatures are required to validate such a petition. Town Clerk Christina Pitts reported that the town saved some $1,500 by drafting the petition in house, rather than using a professional firm.
